Dane County Salvation Army

We have had a wonderful time exploring philosophical questions with the K-2 and 4-5 grade classes at the Salvation Army Community Center.

We’re currently working on building a “community of inquiry,” where students and teachers practice critical, creative, and caring thinking as they work together in pursuit of the true, the good, and the beautiful.

After presenting a provocative subject-relevant stimulus such as an idea-rich short story, work of art, or thought experiment, students generate a list of questions they are interested in examining and collectively determine which to work on first.

Students and teachers encourage each other to clarify concepts, analyze assumptions, provide reasons and evidence for claims, and trace arguments to their logical conclusions.
